Globalfest to Make Its Summer Debut

By LORI HOLCOMB-HOLLAND
June 26, 2014

Eleven musical acts, three film screenings, family-friendly performances and an underground bass stage will mark Globalfest’s summer debut, at Lincoln Center on July 27, organizers announced on Thursday.

Globalfest, a showcase for international music that has taken place in New York during the doldrums of January since 2003, is expanding to offer a day of free programming as part of the Lincoln Center Out of Doors festival. Among the highlights will be film screenings, to be held in the Elinor Bunin Munroe Film Center beginning at 1 p.m., which include the 2013 music documentaries “Brasslands,” “The Last Song Before the War” and “Journey to Jah.”

Also at 1 p.m. will be a family-oriented performance by Banda de los Muertos and M.A.K.U. Soundsystem, on the Hearst Plaza. Beginning at 5 p.m., the Damrosch Park Bandshell will host four musical acts, including the Indian bhangra band Red Baraat and the Haitian singer and songwriter Emeline. At the same time, the electronic artist Charanjit Singh and multiple D.J.’s will spin global rhythms at the porte-cochère beneath Lincoln Center’s main plaza. More information can be found at globalfest.org.
