Lincoln Center Out of Doors: A summer of music and dance

The Lincoln Center Out of Doors festival returns, offering you the chance to soak up acclaimed musical talent and dance performances for free, under open skies.

Lovers of summer, music, dance and free things—that's all of you, then—rejoice! The Lincoln Center Out of Doors festival is upon us. The 44th season runs from July 20 to August 10, and this year's program is every bit as deliciously diverse as you'd expect from Lincoln Center.

The festival kicks off with a memorial concert for Pete and Toshi Seeger (July 20) featuring Peter Yarrow, the Chapin Sisters and Dar Williams, plus José González teaming up with yMusic (July 31). We're also excited to see the first performance in 40 years of Larry Harlow's Hommy: A Latin Opera (July 23).

Jazz lovers will thrill to the world premiere of A Sacred Steel Love Supreme (Aug 8), the Campbell Brothers' celebration of the 50th anniversary of John Coltrane's A Love Supreme, while soul fans can get their fill with Roberta Flack and Davell Crawford (July 26) and Amel Larrieux (July 30).

Fans of open-air grooving can get down to M.A.K.U. Soundsystem at the all-day celebration globalFEST (July 27), and families can dance together at the Baby Loves Disco dance party on Family Day (July 26).

And there's a treat for roots enthusiasts with Americanafest NYC (Aug 6–10), featuring performances from Rosanne Cash, Emmylou Harris and Rodney Crowell, Cassandra Wilson, the Lone Bellow and Charles Bradley. Phew!

All this, plus poetry, dance and movies? Tell ’em we sent you.
