Each year, two local treasures become the places to experience international inspiration.

The Memorial Union Terrace and the Willy Street Fair host the Madison World Music Festival September 14 and 15.

Presented for the ninth time by the Wisconsin Union Theater, the free festival attracts musical groups from around the globe. This year’s theme of fusion brings even more of an eclectic mix, featuring several bands that meld genres, traditions and cultures.

Zeb & Haniya is a duo from Pakistan blending traditional and alternative, folk and ethnic blues music. Then there's Delhi to Dublin, a Canada-based band with musicians hailing from India and Ireland. Movits! is a trio that combines Swedish hip hop and swing. And Matuto, a band described as “Appalachia meets Brazil,” offers everything from bluegrass to forro, swamp rock to maracatu.

Friday’s performances take place at the Memorial Union (with the Rathskeller as a backup in the event of rain); on Saturday, enjoy the music at the Willy Street Fair followed by a global dance party back at the Terrace.
