Shahrokh Yadegari and Keyavash Nourai

Shahrokh Yadegari was born in Iran and moved to the US in 1979. He holds a BS in Electrical Engineering from Purdue University, a Master's in Media Arts and Sciences from MIT's Media Lab, and a Ph.D. in music from University of California, San Diego. In 2004 he joined the faculty of the Theatre and Dance Department at the University of California, San Diego to form and head the MFA program in Sound Design. Yadegari has collaborated with such artists as Peter Sellars,  Steven Schick, Hossein Omoumi,  Vibeke Sorensen , Yolande Snaith, Azam Ali, Keyavash Nourai, and Siamak Shajarian. Yadegari has worked at Institut de Recherche et Coordination Acoustique/Musique (IRCAM), founded by Pierre Boulez, and he is one of the founders of Persian Arts Society, and Kereshmeh Records, organizations dedicated to advancement and preservation of Persian traditional music. He has given talks in the United States and Europe at institutes such as IRCAM, Sonology at the Royal Conservatory of The Netherlands, Center for New Music and Audio Technologies at the University of California-Berkeley, and the Society for Electro-Acoustic Music Los Angeles chapter. His music has been played internationally in the United States, Canada, Chile, Europe, China, Australia, and Cuba in various venues such as the International Computer Music Conference (ICMC), the Institut für Neue Musik und Musikerziehung, Darmstadt, and Contemporary Museum of Art, San Diego. Yadegari's areas of research include the use of interactive computing for live music, dance, and theatre performances, spatialization, and applications of non-linear dynamical systems for synthesis. Among his recent projects are the sound design for  The Children of Herakles directed by Peter Sellars, Garden of Lila (dance, animation, and music) with Yolande Snaith, Green Memories (an interactive computer music and video performance) with Vibeke Sorensen, Azam Ali, and Keyavash Nourai, and (The New) Ur Sonata with Steven Schick.

Keyavash Nourai was born in Tehran, Iran where he began his serious pursuit of a musical career at the age of 10. He studied the violin and kamanche with the acclaimed Kamran Daroughe until he moved to United States in 1977. He continued his musical studies in the United States under the tutelage of Alexander Treger, Eugene Fodor, Mark Menzies, and other prominent musicians. In addition, Nourai extended his skills by studying under the Indian violin masters L. Subramaniam and L.Shankar. He attended the school of music at California State University, Northridge and earned his Bachelor's degree in world music from the California Institute of the Arts, where he later earned his masters degree in Western Classical Violin.  At the present time, Nourai plays and teaches numerous Persian instruments, such as setar, santur, tombak, and the quartertone piano. Also, he has mastered different styles of Radif playing which has given him various musical avenues for his virtuosic violin playing and improvisation. In addition, he has also composed numerous symphonic pieces and chamber music for orchestra. His recent focus is on arranging many traditional Persian songs in the style of Western Classical Music.  Keyavash Nourai is proficient in various musical genres including Western Classical, Traditional Persian as well as fusion Jazz.
