More about Chris Burton Jácome and Martín Gaxiola

Chris Burton Jácomebegan playing guitar in 1986. While living in Sevilla, Spain, Chris studied flamenco guitar with some of the greatest flamenco performers of this era. Since Chris’ return from Spain, he has been performing over 200 shows a year and has played many sold-out performances throughout the US and Canada.

Chris’ music can be heard scoring the Emmy Award Winning PBS television special: “Flamenco” (broadcast in Arizona by KAET-TV Channel 8: Mike Sauceda, producer), on the popular TV shows “Kyle xy” and “Greek”. Most recently two of Chris’ original songs appeared in the film “Amreeka” which was a jury selection for the Sundance Film Festival and won the Fipresci Prize at the Cannes Film Festival in 2009. Chris’ flamenco version of the Christmas Classic, “Joy to the World”, was included in Coldwater Creek Catalogue’s 2004 Christmas CD. Chris can also soon be heard as the featured soloist in the movie soundtrack of “9/tenths”.

Chris’ music has received critical acclaim from the beginning of his career. From Chris’ debut CD, Motivación, the title track “Motivación” finished in the Top 10 in the John Lennon Songwriting Contest World Music Category. Out of 25,000 entries! Chris’ second album, “Pa’lante”, was just as well received: “Highly recommended for fans of flamenco, nuevo flamenco, world music, or well-executed and recorded guitar music in general” –(Guitar Nine Records) Chris’ 4th album entitled, “Flamenco” is an exciting new work eliciting reviews like “Jácome’s gorgeous, evocative compositions are a testament to his abilities as a writer and performer…”-(Get Out! Magazine’s Chris Hansen) and An extraordinary and fresh-sounding, passionate album...”-(Slipcue.com June 2005).

Chris is currently the musical director for CALO FLAMENCO, Ballet de Martín Gaxiola. Chris writes the music and lyrics for Calo’s productions and performs live with his musical ensemble for Calo Flamenco’s Broadway-ready flamenco dance shows.


Martín Gaxiola (Flamenco Dancer)
- is the artistic director and founder of his own flamenco music and dance ensemble, CALO FLAMENCO, based in Phoenix, AZ.  Martín began studying dance in 1992 and since then has studied flamenco extensively in Spain (Sevilla and Madrid) with such renowned artists as Antonio Granjero, Immaculada Ortega, Juana Amaya, Manolo Marín and in the U.S. with Dini Roman. He gained professional experience performing with such dance companies as Maria Benitez Teatro Flamenco (NM), Flamenco Ole! (PA), Flamenco Y Más (AZ) and can be seen in two different PBS television specials: “Flamenco”, and “Flamenco: The Passion of Flamenco Dance”.  

Martín has shared his flamenco artistry in dance classes and lecture demonstrations to children, students and adults across the U.S. and abroad. As a choreographer, he created several original works and full theatrical presentations for various dance companies and solo artists in the U.S.
