More About Appalatin

“One of the most unique bands in our city and we are so lucky to call them ‘ours’ even though they belong to the world at large. They are also one of the best live bands I've ever seen!” - Laura Shine, WFPK Radio Louisville

"You kind of can’t not dance to this Appalachian-Latin fusion band." Melissa Chipman, Insider Louisville

Exactly what you may or may not expect from a group of guys hailing from geographic locations such as Ecuador, Nicaragua, Mexico, Guatemala … not to mention Kentucky. Appalatin fluently combine the sounds and styles indigenous to Latin music with that of American folk music, transcending into its own unique amalgamation of truly global music.

The six-member band uses all acoustic instrumentation that features classical and steel string guitars; traditional Native wood flutes and pan flutes; harmonica; mandolin; charango (Andean ukelele); bass; and a myriad of percussion (congas, bongos, cajon, maracas, cow-bell and guiro to name a few).

SInce 2009, they've been listed on the Kentucky Arts Council's Performing Artist Directory, an adjudicated roster of some of Kentucky's most distinctive performing artists.

Their high energy and positive shows have gained a solid following in the Louisville, Indianapolis, and Lexington markets and have attracted the attention of some of the region's top venues. In 2012, they performed at the River Roots Music and Folk Arts Festival in Madison, IN and have been invited to return for a prime-time Friday performance at the 2013 festival. They also appeared on Michael Jonathon's Woodsongs Old-Time Radio Hour alongside bluegrass great Clair Lynch in November 2012. The band has been featured on 91.9 FM WFPK’s "Live Lunch", West Virginia Public Radio’s “Inside Appalachia” and LEO Weekly’s 15th Anniversary Music Issue (July 2011).

The band has shared the stage with artists such as Red Baraat, Sam Bush, Claire Lynch, The Black Lilies, 23 String Band, Justin Lewis, The Tillers, Dubtonic Kru, and many more.

Currently the band is set to release its forthcoming album (May 2013) produced by the acclaimed producer Duane Lundy (Ben Sollee, These United States, Vanderveer, Daniel Martin Moore).
