SUGAR KNIGHTS: MÓNICA GIRALDO
Words by CJ Fahey
Colombia is the most musical country I’ve visited. Colombians will find any excuse they can to dance (case in point: World Cup goal celebration). Go to a restaurant for dinner and by 10PM the tables are pushed aside and it’s a dance floor.
Mónica Giraldo is one of the latest of exceptionally talented Colombian musicians whose music is travelling across borders. Her new album Que Venga La Vida came out on July 1 in the USA. This beautiful live performance of “Tal Vez” is a good introduction to her music.
Giraldo grew up in Medellín, known in Colombia as the “City of Eternal Spring.” She went to school at Boston’s Berklee College of Music and is now based in Bogotá, where she collaborates with musicians from bands such as Monsieur Periné and Sidestepper.
