Emmy award-winning actor Martin Sheen makes his DJ debut this week on National Geographic's groundbreaking World Music web site, worldmusic.nationalgeographic.com. The critically acclaimed actor, well known for his television role as President Bartlett on "The West Wing," has compiled an eclectic mix of music from Cuba, Algeria, Ireland, Peru, Brazil, and other parts of the world exclusively for National Geograhic.
"It wasn't until I reviewd the extensive selection of artists and songs offered on the site that I truly appreciate the amazing stories that these musicians tell," said Sheen. " Through National Geographic World Music, I discovered incredible artists and their music, all while learning about including narrating "Inside the Vatican."
National Geographic World Music, launched in July 2006 to support National Geographic's core mission of inspiring people to care about the planet, provides media-rich features, breaking music news and celebrity DJ playlists. It offers discovery of music by artist, region or genre while serving as an important distribution outlet for artists and labels. National Geographic's World Music content is programmed by recognized music experts under the supervision of Tom Pryor, former editor of Global Rhythm magazine. Together with Calabash Music, LinkTV, Afropop Worldwide and Global Rhythm, National Geographic's site allows listeners to preview and purchase thousands of tracks.
