globalFEST 2011 Announces Final Lineup

World Music Festival Returns to NYC

by Amina Ragheb

The 8th annual globalFEST concert returns to New York City's Webster Hall on January 9, 2011

The one-night festival, devoted to breaking new international and world music artists, will feature over ten acts that include three U.S. debuts.

For more information, including ticketing and showtimes, consult globalFEST website.

This year's globalFEST lineup includes:

Diblo Dibala - Congolese guitar master known as "Machine Gun".

La-33 - A hot Columbian salsa band with clever originals and quirky covers.

Pedrito Martinez Group - Afro-Cuban percussionist ranging in styles from traditional batá-rumbato Cuban jazz, son and timba.

RAM - At the forefront of Haiti's misik rasin movement, this band interweaves Haitian vodou spiritual song with rock sensibilities.

Yoro Ndiaye - Making his U.S. debut from Senegal, finds the more introspective sweet spot of dance-oriented mbalax, and afropop.

Creole Choir of Cuba - passed down songs in Cuba's Haitian community with roots going back to the turn of the 19th century (previously known in the U.S. as Desandann).

Rhythm of Rajasthan - Taking the diverse music and dance from the birthplace of Gypsy culture.

Bumcello - Cellist Vincent Ségal and kora player Ballaké Sissoko make their U.S. debut

Kaumakaiwa Kanaka'ole - Traditional Hawaiian sounds musician making his NYC debut.

Orquestra Contemporânea de Olinda - All-star collaboration from Northeast Brazil's red-hot mangue beat scene.
