Saw Doctors Bring Irish Rock to Maine 03/15/2011 Reported By: Tom Porter
The Saw Doctors are in Maine's biggest city tonight. The Irish rock band has one of the most distinctive sounds and loyal fan bases in the world, with cult followings in Britain, Ireland and the United States. With St. Patrick's Day looming on Thursday, the Saw Doctors are getting people in the mood with a performance tonight at the Port City Music Hall in Portland. Earlier today, lead guitarist and founding member of the band Leo Moran stopped by our studios, along with bass player Anthony Thistlethwaite.
The Saw Doctors were formed in 1986 in County Galway on the west coast of Ireland. By the early 90s, they were a household name, thanks to hit singles like N17 and I Useta Love Her.
I Useta Love Her topped both the British and Irish charts and remained at number one in Ireland for a record nine weeks. Today it's still the all-time biggest single in that country. Even after more than 20 years performing it, Leo Moran still gets a kick out of the song. 03/15/11 >> go there
