Through the release of their intoxicating debut album, “Ay Que Rico,” singer/songwriter Jose Conde and his orchestra Ola Fresca have established themselves as one of the New York’s most intriguing voices in Afro-Caribbean music. Conde began his career in rock but found his true calling exploring the roots of his Cuban parents. “The music that I make now has the flame of Cuba burning through it,” he explains. “I just combine it with my other influences: funk, jazz, and contemporary sounds from other regions of Latin America.” A self-professed “musician by night and independent record company owener by day,” Conde has already sold 3,000 copies of the album in the seven months since its release. In concert, he performs selections from the album, as well as covers ranging from Cuban son to Ruben Blades salsa. 12/29/04
