BY Lynell George
Taking their name and inspiration from a tune made famous by the great Django Reinhardt, Les Yeux Noirs (The Black Eyes) have for a decade been experimenting with their own blend of what can only be called Gypsy-klezmer pop. Led by classically trained violinists Eric and Olivier Slabiak, the octet has dreamed up an evocative, all-over-the-map reinterpretation of Gypsy jazz and Jewish folk music that evokes as many emotions as it inspires. 05/04/03
