Legendary vocal group Ladysmith Black Mambazo has been nominated for two Grammy Awards, South African Broadcasting Corporation (SABC) television news reported on Thursday.

The group was nominated in the categories of best traditional world-music album and best surround-sound album.

The winners will be announced at the 47th Annual Grammy Awards Ceremony in Los Angeles early in February.

For more than 30 years, Ladysmith Black Mambazo have married the complex rhythms and harmonies of African traditional music to the sounds of Western music.

The group have recorded more than 40 albums, selling more than six million records at home and abroad. They already have nine Grammy nominations under their belt -- their first album released in the United States, Shaka Zulu, won them a Grammy Award in 1987.

Ladysmith Black Mambazo has recorded with numerous artists from around the world such as Stevie Wonder, Dolly Parton, Ben Harper and Paul Simon.

Simon was the first musician to give them group global recognition.

The group jets out of the country on Thursday night and will tour the US for four months doing shows in various states, the SABC reported. - Sapa
