Whoever dreamed up the collaboration between African vocal ensemble Ladysmith Black Mambazo and the English Chamber Orchestra deserves a Grammy. As arranged by Ralf Gothoni on the album "No Boundaries" (Heads Up), this Zulu-goes-classical themed outing proves a delicately haunting, richly rewarding affair. Repertoire includes an orchestrated reading of Paul Simon's "Homeless," a stunning "Amazing Grace" and an Africanized version of Bach's "Jesu, Joy of Man's Desiring."
Another South African vocal group, the spiritually inclined Soweto Gospel Choir, makes its pleasant American debut with "Voices From Heaven" (Shanachie). 01/25/05 >> go there
