I was prepared to hate this album. There's absolutely no reason why a collaboration between the world-famous South African vocal ensemble Ladysmith Black Mambazo and the English Chamber Orchestra should work. It would be reasonable to expect both that the orchestral strings would drag down the singers and that the relatively simple chord progressions of the songs would lead to dead-boring orchestral arrangements. Neither turns out to be the case; the results of this unlikely project are both emotionally involving and musically fascinating. Very highly recommended to all music collections.
