The Soweto Gospel Choir, which has a style harking back to South Africa's legendary Ladysmith Black Mambazo, makes a stop in Stockton on March 13 as part of its 35-city North American tour.
Comprising 35 vocalists, musicians, dancers and drummers, the choir celebrates the inspirational power of African music, from traditional South African spirituals to popular songs and rollicking township jive numbers.
The choir will perform selections from its new CD, "Voices from Heaven," which blends traditional music in six languages, including Zulu, Xhosa and Sotho with contemporary songs from the likes of Otis Redding and Jimmy Cliff.
