Thulani Shabalala of Ladysmith Black Mambazo teaches a dance step to the University of Notre Dame Glee Club at a master class the African a cappella vocal group conducted Tuesday afternoon. Ladysmith Black Mambazo performed Sunday at the DeBartolo Center for the Performing Arts. The Glee Club was singing a folk song from Ghana, "Kpanlongo," when Shabalala helped the group integrate dance steps into its performance.
Joseph Shabalala participates in a master class he and his South African vocal group, Ladysmith Black Mambazo, conducted Tuesday. During the class, the Glee Club performed Ladysmith Black Mambazo's "Beautiful Rain," the Ghanaian folk song "Kpanlongo" and the American spiritual "Swing Down Chariot." Ladysmith Black Mambazo performed "Beautiful Rain" for the Glee Club and answered questions about how it creates its music and choreography. 03/23/05 >> go there
