Ladysmith Black Mambazo has put 30 years behind them with their new album "Long Walk To Freedom." This album is a collection of new recordings of old Ladysmith Black Mambazo songs, except for the last track, "Thula Thula." The various guest singers include Lucky Dube, Melissa Ethridge, Emmylou Harris, Taj Mahal, Hugh Masekela, Joe McBride, Sarah McLachlan, Natalie Merchant and Zap Mama, among others. The Paul Simon hit "Diamonds On The Soles Of Her Shoes" is featured on the album with guest appearances by Melissa Etheridge and Joe McBride. Ladysmith Black Mambazo is a mix between traditional Zulu singing and Christian gospel singing that can literally shake your body with five bass singers in the group. Ladysmith Black Mambazo is now a cultural icon and force for Zulu, South Africa, Africa as well as many different cultures and religions all over the world. The group has embodied the spirit of love (not necessarily in the Christian sense) and dramatically helped to change the political landscape. "Long Walk To Freedom" retraces the steps the a capella group has made on their long trip. These songs flow chronologically to map out their journey, with songs such as "Homeless," "Amazing Grace/Nearer My God To Thee," and "Long Walk To Freedom" which appropriately describes the groups lofty and blessed goals.

(Editor's Note: It was a remarkable victory for the African National Congress and Nelson Mandela to recover South Africa from European domination which created tremendous wealth for the Europeans and terrible poverty for the African people in their homeland. The Oppenheimer family and many other white imperialists own the diamonds etc. of South Africa, while the South Africans live in extreme poverty suffering from AIDS and HIV and many other diseases. Things have changed, but they haven't changed enough. The African's rule their country, but still live in terrible poverty.) 02/23/06 >> go there
