I tend to really have a thing for New Zealand acts (like Quarter Acre Lifestyle and Breaks Co-Op), so it was a treat to receive an advance copy of the new Black Seeds album, Solid Ground.
The Black Seeds are a “small, tight-knit creative community that in recent years has produced such things as The Lord Of The Rings films and the comedy duo Flight Of The Conchords,” although you won’t see Bret McKenzie in the current line-up. But that’s fine, actually.
The 8-piece group blends reggae, afro-dub and a host of unfamiliar NZ influence into their music. It’s great stuff, and I’m happy to have their award-winning tunes stuck in my head.
