MARY JANE LAMOND/Storas:
Back when BMG cared about world beat, Lamond was one of the standard bearers on the Chieftain's Wicklow custom label with her tales of Cape Breton. A preservationist that doesn't want to be stuck in the past, Lamond showcases her treasures on this set as she takes you through the folk history of the land and it's dying language. Freed from corporate dictates, she makes this record for herself as opposed to for them and lets the music lead the way instead of the other way around. A nice detour for fans of Great Britain-derived folk music, Lamond is a sure-footed musical guide throughout some nether regions that are virtually right in your own back yard.
