New Downloads
National Public Radio and National Geographic have launched online music opportunites.
NPR is offering "Shadow Classics" with critic Tom Moon. The program will showcase rock, pop, soul, jazz and classical recording Moon considers essential at www,npr.org/music.
Each Wednesday, a different recording will be featured with an online essay and links to listen to selections from the featured work. Moon's first choice was Donny Hathaway's 1970 debut Everything is Everything.
National Geographic is offering free world music downloads at worldmusic.nationalgeographic.com. "Free downloads will not only expose audiences to incredible artists from around the world but will also give artists the recognition they deserve," said David Beal, musician, composer and former executive at Palm Pictures, who has been working on the launch of National Geographic's music site. Programming is supervised by Tom Pryor, former editor of Global Rhythm magazine. 08/20/06
