Daara J "Boomerang": Here’s a different offering. Daara J is a trio from Africa who rap in their native tongue. They have learned well from their American counterparts, but they say it much better: "Born in Africa, brought up in America, hip hop has come full circle." The rhymes are lean and mean (even if you don’t understand the native tongue) and the production is brash. The difference lies in subtle touches that are from the homeland, like the great guitar work on this disc. The percussion is another aspect of this collection that lets you know that Daara J can flow with the best of them without letting go of their roots. An excellent offering from a faraway land.
