Various Artists, Sound of the World (Wrasse Records)

International radio host Charlie Gillett hosts the show "Sound of the World" on BBC London that is also carried worldwide by BBC World Service.  Gillett has a knack for finding obscure artists in the world music genre and releases some of the best ones in his annual compilations.  Sound of the World is the latest collection of songs featured on his show and is a 2-cd set compiling the work of artists from 28 countries.  Take a musical tour through the works of musicians in France, Mali, South Africa, Brazil, Japan, Spain and many others.  Gillett has an affinity for Western African music, but also gathers music from lands as diverse as New Zealand and India. 11/01/05
