Motion Trio Play-Station [Asphalt Tango] Polish accordion madness! Three dudes with accordions doing their thing is virtually all you get on this record. The Motion Trio take their squeezeboxes all over the musical landscape, from way in to way out. "Fly" is a bit of a novelty that features one accordion imitating the sound of a buzzing fly, and doing it very well, too. There's more substance to the rest of it: "Yellow Trabant" moves a lot more powerfully than the lousy cars it's named for, opening with deep, bellowing tones and charging through movements full of interlocking flutters and ominous swells, while "UFO" settles into a ridiculous rhythm you'd swear was synthesized if you didn't know that this album featured nothing but totally acoustic, unaffected accordion. If you're not convinced that 50 minutes of bitching accordion music is for you, all I can say is, don't knock it till you've tried it. 05/29/06 >> go there
