Social critic and folk troubadour Pedro Luis Ferrer recorded this, his second album in a series of four, in his modest home-studio in Havana with a backing band of three musicians (Basilo Perodin on percussion, Lerlys Morales on guitar, and Lena Ferrer on vocals). But the small number of musicians doesn't mean a lack of instrumentation. Ferrer has talent for mixing components from an array of instruments to achieve his unique folksy sound. Some of these instruments are the Cuban tres, bongos, claves, cowbell marimbula, bata drums, guiro, and cajon, among others. Some highlights here are the opening track ("Fiestas de Mujeres"), "Anana Oye"an African lullaby where the sound of the bata drums will make your heart go faster, and "Dime", sung by Lena (Ferrer's soprano daughter). 10/01/06
