HELENA-WEST HELENA - A regular stopping place for some of the world’s finest artists and ensembles, Helena is proud to continue the Warfield tradition as the Warfield Concerts Committee announces its 2010-2011 season.
The season opener, “The Songs & Letters of World War II,” will be performed Thursday, Oct. 28, by War Bonds. Sponsored by the Delta Cultural Center, a museum of the Department of Arkansas Heritage, this production will take the audience on a musical journey through World War II interspersed with personal letters from the Front.
The 2010 Warfield season continues with “An Nollaig (An Irish Christmas)” presented by Eileen Ivers, on Saturday, Dec. 4, sponsored by Roller Citizens Funeral Home, Smith Insurance of Helena/Farmers Insurance, and Helena Marine Service in memory of Jim Walden.
Bringing in the New Year will be Teatro Lirico D’Europa performing “Madama Butterfly” on Tuesday, Jan. 18, in a concert that is being sponsored by the Phillips County Community Foundation in memory of Walter and Louise Smith and Helen Mosby.
The regular Warfield Concert season will come to a close with a concert featuring Melinda Doolittle. “Melinda in Concert at Lily Peter” will be presented Thursday, March 17, sponsored by Entergy.
Each Warfield Concert will be presented at 7:30 p.m. in Lily Peter Auditorium located at Phillips Community College in Helena. Free tickets for the Warfield Concerts are available at the Phillips County Chamber of Commerce, 111 Hickory Hill Drive in Helena, or at the Tourist Information Center on the U.S. Highway 49 Bypass.
No children under the age of six will be admitted. The same ticket may be used for every regular season concert. This series of concerts, all free, are made possible through a bequest by the late S.D. Warfield, the Warfield patrons, and the corporate, business, agency, and foundation contributors.
