Sounds of the Season: L.A. Holiday Concerts
Dec 11th 2010 9:24AM / by Carly Milne

Does your heart melt at just the right rendition of "O Holy Night?" Do you burst with glee when you hear "Twelve Days of Christmas?" Though there's a billion holiday concerts to chose from, we've selected some that will suit your mood no matter what it is. Now, dust off that Santa hat and do some vocal exercises -- it's time to go carolling with the pros.

Intimate and Interactive: Popular independent songbird Sarah Dashew is turning Nirvana Beverly Hills into her own winter wonderland. The singer/songwriter is taking the stage to share both traditional and original holiday songs, all of which share her unique and relatable depth as an artist by blending elements of folk, pop, country and soul.
Wed. Dec. 15, 8pm
Nirvana Beverly Hills, 8689 Wilshire Blvd., Beverly Hills; 310-657-5040

Talented and Fabulous: With only three performances, you'd better act fast to get a seat for the renowned Gay Men's Chorus of Los Angeles. Their annual musical holiday extravaganza at the Alex Theater will also feature LeAnn Rimes and Sheryl Lee Ralph, while 150 singers share their renditions of the season's best -- including "Twelve Days of Christmas" with a black-light puppet spectacular and merry elves.
Sat. Dec. 18, 3pm and 8pm; Sun. Dec. 19, 3pm; $15 - $55
Alex Theater, 216 North Brand Blvd., Glendale; 818-243-2539

Heartwarming and Inspiring:
Four-time Grammy-winning gospel legends and Gospel Music Hall of Fame inductees The Blind Boys of Alabama (pictured) are bringing their holiday show, "Go Tell It On The Mountain" to the Walt Disney Concert Hall. Expect a range of the carols you know, like "Jingle Bells" and "Silent Night," those you might not including "I Pray on Christmas," and gospel faves like "Amazing Grace."
Mon. Dec. 20, 8pm; $29 - $86
Walt Disney Concert Hall, 111 South Grand Ave.; 323-850-2000

Overseas and Festive: With Irish inspiration, Eileen Ivers presents "An Nollaig: An Irish Christmas" at the Walt Disney Concert Hall. Settle in for a fabulous night of fiddling, as Ivers invokes the traditions of Irish family holiday celebrations while also honoring American interpretations of the season, blending age-old Wren Day songs with the carols we all know and love.
Thu. Dec. 23, 8pm; $29 - $86
