Christmas and New Year’s events in East Texas

Santa Land

LINDALE — Santa Land, the drive-through Christmas lights display just off Interstate 20 near Lindale, is open 6 to 10:30 nightly through Jan. 4. Admission is $20 per car or $30 per commercial van with a limit of 15 people. For information, call (903) 882-1518.

Wonderland of Lights

MARSHALL — The 25th annual Wonderland of Lights continues through Jan. 1.

More than a million lights will shine on Marshall’s town square, historical courthouse and a wonderland of attractions planned in the 40-day festival. New attractions include the world’s biggest rocking horse, a 37-foot-tall mountain for sledding and two outdoor ice skating rinks, one for families and one for just for kids. Double-decker bus tours and Clydesdale-drawn carriage rides are also offered.

SFA activities

NACOGDOCHES — Eileen Ivers and her band, Immigrant Soul, will perform “An Nollaig: An Irish Christmas” at 7:30 p.m.today in the Stephen F. Austin State University W.M. Turner Auditorium.

Christmas dances

The Green Street Recreation Center, 814 S. Green St., has scheduled a Christmas dance from 7 to 9 p.m. Saturday. Tickets are $5. For information call (903) 237-1279.

The Snappy “8” Social Club has scheduled its annual Christmas Dance from 9 p.m. to 1 a.m. Dec. 24 at the Ramada Limited. Rockin Roz of Shreveport will be the DJ. Tickets are $15 single; $25 couples. Proceeds benefit the academic scholarship fund. For information call Delaney at (903) 445-1583.

Fort Worth orchestra

FORT WORTH —The Fort Worth Symphony Orchestra has scheduled “Christmas with the von Trapp Children” for 7:30 p.m. Wednesday.

The von Trapp children, the great-grandchildren of Captain and Maria von Trapp, present traditional seasonal songs and favorites from “The Sound of Music.” Tickets are $29 to $78.

Longview orchestra

The Longview Symphony Orchestra presents its Holiday Celebration Concert at 7:30 p.m Thursday at the S.E. Belcher Jr. Chapel and Performance Center at LeTourneau University. Doors open at 6 p.m. and Opening Notes begins at 6:30 p.m. The concert also features members of the Longview Area Youth Symphony Orchestra and a sing-along.

Tickets are $10 to $50 plus fees, with special pricing through Dec. 12. For tickets, call (903) 233-3080 to purchase tickets.

An evening of Christmas song

The First United Methodist Church, Green and Whaley streets, downtown Longview, has scheduled An Evening of Christmas Song at 7 p.m. Thursday. Featured singers include Alyssa Marshall, soprano, Katherine Dulweber, mezzo-soprano and Laura Webb, soprano. The concert is free.

New Year’s Eve activities

BALLROOM DANCING: The East Texas Ballroom Dance Association’s New Year’s Eve Big Band Spectacular is 7 p.m. to 12:30 a.m. Dec. 31 at Maude Cobb Convention Center, 100 Grand Blvd., Longview. Performances feature the Youth Ballroom Dance Team. The event is alcohol free. Tickets are $20. Tickets are available at Mardel Christian Bookstore. JEFFERSON: the Jefferson Carnegie Library, 301 W. Lafayette St., will hold a celebration from 8 p.m. to 12:30 a.m. Dec. 31. Tickets are $40 per person, and seating is limited. Tickets are available at the library.

FORT WORTH: The Fort Worth Symphony Orchestra will ring in 2012 with “Swingin’ in the New Year,” an evening of swing and big-band favorites led by guest conductor Jeff Tyzik and vocalist Carmen Bradford. The concert begins at 8 p.m. Dec. 31 at Bass Performance Hall. Tickets are $29 to $80 and are available at (817) 665-6000 or www.fwsymphony.org.
