MUSIC NOTES: Christmas reflection

By Alexis Del Palazzo, Sentinel Blogger The Sentinel - cumberlink.com | Posted: Tuesday, December 20, 2011 11:05 am

Most gigs have been played, but many musicians will still be playing for Christmas Eve services. I'm ramping up my consumption of Christmas music this week, and I'm looking forward to spending time with family and friends. But I'm anticipating the new year with excitement.

We still have 11 days before the end of the year, and already I'm seeing "Best of 2011" lists everywhere. Now is the perfect time to reflect on our own lives and what 2011 has brought you personally. What do you hope 2012 will bring?

Reflect, plan, dream. I love this time of year because it not only gives us the opportunity to spend cherished time with others, but there's a connective power in looking ahead to the new year with a renewed sense of hope and anticipation.

Going into the new year with what feels like a clean slate is comforting. I'm already planning my musical calendar with exciting events, and this early start has me energized and ready to begin 2012.

As far as enjoying more live music, tonight at 7:30, Celtic fiddler Eileen Ivers will present "An Irish Christmas" at the Majestic Theater in Gettysburg. Ivers will perform traditional favorites with her band, Immigrant Soul. They have performed with the LA Philharmonic and the London Symphony. For more information, visit the theater's website.

As you finish up Christmas preparations, begin looking ahead to next year. It'll be here before you know it.
