Eileen Ivers is something of a violin superstar — the New York Times has referred to her as “the Jimmi Hendrix of the violin.”
The Irish-American musician was born in New York City, but has an incredible resume of performance with music inspired by Irish culture, including touring with Riverdance and being a founding member of Cherish the Ladies. Now, together with her band Immigrant Soul and the Elizabethtown College Concert Choir, she will present a Christmas concert titled “An Nollaig: An Irish Christmas.”
The concert will feature American Christmas carols as well as traditional holiday songs from Ireland’s Wren Day celebrations, also known as the Feast of St. Stephen, which falls on December 26.
“There is so much joy in the season, and I wanted to bring that out to welcome listeners in,” Ivers says. Just like ornaments in a Christmas tree, the tunes in An Nollaig have been lovingly passed down through the generations as well. Some are hundreds of years old — some are new.”
