The Cuban Cowboys bring something arguably new and ardent to the stage in Diablo Mambo,their newest album–a unique mix of rock, punk, and Cuban-inspired tunes. With kick-ass vocals, lead singer Jorge Navarro utilizes a combination of Spanish and English in tracks where he sings of growing up in Florida, being the son of Cuban exiles, and dealing with tough family issues and strong family ties.

Navarro’s lyrics come to the listener in unison with the sounds of rock with a “punk”-ish influence and attitude. As Navarro puts it, ”… ‘Is it real; is it parody?’ It takes people a minute to decide.” Whether you take his lyrics literally (they are, for the record, based on real events), much of The Cuban Cowboys’ music comes off as darkly humorous. And while some of their tracks are a little more romantic, but ultimately, they proudly defy the Latin American swoon-like ballad stereotype.
