RETURN TO HILLYARD STREET
CD review by Vinnie Baggadonuts

I'm in an Irish pub in dayton, Ohio of all places, Watching the Slackers leave the stage after a multi-song Soundcheck. A treat for me, and my Pretty Lady friend. We're sipping thick beers and laughing, when the music kicks in over the P.A. It's "duppy Conqueror," but it's not Bob Marley playing it. It's thicker-Layered-and alive. A Cover, to be sure, and a good one at that. No easy feat, covering Bob, and doing it justice. Vic is walking towards the merch table in pace to the Music. My Pretty Lady friend is tapping her fingers and toes in time to the beat. I catch myself bobbing my head to it. Three or four more songs play. One I  Recognize: "Old Days," A Slackers' tune, but not by the Slackers. I figure it out. This is the Rocksteady 7's new Record. David Hillyard and the Rocksteady 7. A side project projecting Ska and Reggae and jazz. Oh yes, jazz. In spirit, in sound. And skilled. It's the band playing together. No fancy studio tricks. Just the magic of music, and Love, and Revolution. And one month Later, when I finally get my hands on the Record, I'm happier than a Dubya-free America.
(This is the soundtrack of the freedom and)
This is the Soundtracked Spirit of Positivity, Creativity, and Lyricless Social expression, I need.
Fist in the air, dance in my feet, song on my stereo. 05/01/03 >> go there
