Toure carries on Mali blues tradition
ROCKLAND — Ancient African melodies meet reggae and Saharan blues for the Maine debut of legendary Aii Farka Toure's prodigious son Vieux Faika Toure, who will perform Friday, March 2 at 8 p.m. at the Strand Theatre.
A highly talented guitarist, singer, songwriterand percussionist, Toure has crafted a global-minded style with flourishes of rock and reggae amidst Saharan Blues and traditional Malian melodies, Toure ushers in the next generation of Mali blues.

Growing up in Mali's capital, Bamako, as well as in his father's hometown of Niafiinke in the Sahara desert — both teeming with rich musical life — Toure proved himself a precocious talent as a drummer and calabash player.
Toure is touring Europe and the United States for his Fight Malaria North American Tour Tickets cost $17 in adrance and $20 at the door. For tickets or more information call the Strand Theatre at 594-0070 or visit rocklandstrand.com. 02/28/07
