Tango Appreciation Month
Proclamation
WHEREAS, |
the dictionary describes tango as a ballroom dance of Latin-American origin, danced by couples and having many varied steps and poses. Devotees of this classic artistic expression know it is far more than that. Dramatic, emotional, romantic and sensual, tango lifts the spirits, touches the soul, and leaves us breathless and anticipating the next dance; and |
WHEREAS, |
in 2009, the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization, (UNESCO), declared the tango a part of the world's intangible cultural heritage; and |
WHEREAS, |
the first ever Zero Hour Tango Fest will be held in Bloomington, Indiana,
March 26-27, 2010, bringing together a commissioned ensemble of renowned tango masters; and |
WHEREAS, |
Zero Hour Tango Fest will be an immersive, multi-sensory theatrical experience, combining music, dance and video; and |
WHEREAS, |
the City of Bloomington is proud to host the Zero Hour Tango Fest and looks forward to an unforgettable weekend of music, dance and memories. |
NOW, THEREFORE, I, Mark Kruzan, Mayor of Bloomington, Indiana do hereby proclaim the month of April as
Tango Appreciation Month
