This promises to be a wonderful weekend for live music in the Ann Arbor - Detroit area. Brighton's Smokin' Jazz and Barbecue Blues Festival starts tonight with Sean Dobbins' Organ Quartet. We heard Sean on drums with organist Chris Codish backing up the late great Johnnie Bassett this morning. Other Brighton bands included Bettye LaVette and Sarah D'Angelo with Paul Keller. Details about the free Brighton festival are on our "events" page. If you want to stick a little closer to Ann Arbor Saturday night, Laith Al-Saadi will be at Guy Hollerin's for "Local Blues & Local Brews". Laith made the list with his hot new CD "Real.". We also had a hot premiere: "This Train Is Now" by the Raya Brass Band who put the music of the Balkan countries togher with brass instruments and modern funk grooves. It's fun stuff! I hope you had fun listening to the music this morning. I sure had fun putting it together!
