Vieux Farka Touré -- The son of late, great Malian bluesman Ali Farka Touré had to overcome his father's opposition to his making a living as a musician - Dad wanted him to be a soldier. But eventually the younger Touré - whose first name is French for "old" - won his esteemed father's approval. In addition to playing with kora player Toumani Diabaté (at World Cafe Live March 28), Vieux Farka Touré came into his own as a front man, as can be heard on his hypnotic, self-titled solo debut.
