By ERNEST BARTELDES
This group of a capella female singers brings the music of their native country through the so-called "mystery" of their sound (their name translates as "The Mystery of Bulgarian Voices"). Their tradition got its start when groups of young men and women met for what they called "work parties," which was really an an excuse to get together, flirt and exchange songs whose lyrics spoke of spring, the harvest and the holidays. To preserve these traditions, the group, which is officially called The Bulgarian State Radio and Television Female Vocal Choir, was formed in the late eighties and they have been relentlessly touring and recording ever since, earning a Grammy Award for their 1990 album, "Le Mystère des Voix Bulgares II" (Best Traditional Folk Album). They were later nominated for 1994¹s "Rituals." For the current visit, the program will include traditional favorites, fresh repertoire and‹being December‹holiday songs. 12/01/06 >> go there
