Louisiana Cultural Vistas, CD Review >>
Speaking of French-singing women, the mellifluous vocalist Anna Laura Edmiston is just one highlight of the abundantly talented contemporary Cajun band FeuFollet. (The name is a French term for will-o-the-wisp.) FeuFollet formed when the members were children, and made their professional debut at venues such as the Kids' Tent at Jazzfest. Now in their twenties, they've become a mainstay of the young Cajun/Creole scene in Lafayette, alongside such tradition-based peers as the Lost Bayou Ramblers, the Rest Stick Ramblers, T-Sale, The Pine Leaf Boys, Bonsoir Catin, and Cedric Watson. Cow Island Hop (Valcour) makes FeuFollet's firm ascendance to musical maturity, combining original material and traditional gems that are unified by expert musicianship and infectious danceability.
