The Dana Center, regional performing arts center at Saint Anselm College, presents Mali to Memphis featuring Habib Koite with special guest Guy Davis, for one performance only on Saturday, January 28th at 8 p.m. Named for the critically acclaimed Putamayo collection, this is a musical journey from the heart of an ancient West African kingdom to a city where American blues music came into its own. Singer and master guitarist Habib Koite has emerged to become an international star and one of the leading figures in contemporary world music. His arrangements reflect centuries of Malian griot tradition, while incorporating subtle Western influences. Add true blues man Guy Davis to the music mix and you have yourself one amazing rhythm and blues concert! Throughout his career, this powerhouse performer has dedicated himself to reviving the traditions of acoustic blues and bringing them to as many ears as possible through the material of the great blues masters, African American stories, original songs, stories and performance pieces. The routes and roots of his blues are as diverse as the music form itself. Musician, composer, actor, director and most of all blues man, his music explodes with passion and rhythm.
