Midwest Music Recap, CD set review >>
If Bill Wolfer could be Ry Cooder, this journey through EGREM's vaults of classic Cuba pop music would be really meaningful to you. Go beyond the arm chair traveler stage and really take a chance to check this out as there's more to Cuban music than Arturo Sandoval (not that there's anything wrong with that). Here you get stops from the Cuban Rolling Stones, a jazz crew that backed up Paul Simon and important vocalists and instrumentalist that helped shape the Cuban sound and gave the world as much of a taste as is possible coming from a blocked nation. If you think reggae is all there is to tropical music, dig deeper and be rewarded fully. This series is well programmed and a real ear opener. Cultural without being musty (it is a trip through the vaults), it's like NBC used to say, 'it's new if it's new to you'. Wild musical ride you owe it to yourself to take. 11/15/05
