Frank London's Klezmer Brass All Stars Carnival Conspiracy (Piranha; Germany)
You don't have to be cuckoo for klezmer to stay for length of this mood-riffic jaunt by the trumpet-playing Klezmatic, but skeptics should know that there's not a track (or five) here that wouldn't deepen their iPod shuffles. When London charges up old-world vocals and brass with Brazilian Cranaval percussion (as on "Out of What?" and "A Time of Desire/ Curtha Mix"), he's actually slipping some punkish globalism on you. To bring the point home, one piece called "In the Marketplace All is Subterfuge (Podolye Podolye)." 03/08/06
