WORLD MUSIC EXTRAVAGANZA GLOBALFEST @ WEBSTER HALL, NYC (JAN. 21 2007)
New York, (2006-12-12) 4 French-produced acts are scheduled to perform at the 4th edition of New York’s acclaimed world music festival.
Returning for a fourth year after three consecutive sold-out concerts, globalFEST - New York’s world music extravaganza - announces the line-up of that one-night event. Created by 3 of America’s premier world music concert presenters, Maure Aronson (World Music/CRASHarts, Boston), Bill Bragin (The Public Theater, NYC), and Isabel Soffer (World Music Institute, NYC), this festival will take place on Sunday, January 21, 2007 at Webster Hall, with 12 acts performing this night. The diverse tastes of audience members will be met with 45-minute sets; this year globalFEST features artists representing a wide diversity of cultures, traditions, and aesthetics.
Among them, 4 French acts are scheduled to perform: NY’s audience will be able to enjoy the irony and happiness of the “World Musette” tribe Les Primitifs du Futur, the energy of the reggae band Babylon Circus, the soulful songs of the African music/Flamenco duet Julia Sarr & Patrice Larose, or the mastery of oud players Trio Joubran, deeply rooted in the Palestinian musical tradition. This festival, held concurrently to APAP's annual conference, will offer significant exposure for those French-produced artists, eventually broadening their horizon on North America's soil.
globalFEST is part of the annual Arts Presenters (APAP) conference and is sponsored by The Cultural Services of the French Embassy to the U.S. with additional support from the French Music Export Office and CulturesFrance, recognizing France’s pre-eminent role as a hotbed for world music activity. 12/12/06 >> go there
