In many cultures, traditional music means misery.  Plaintiveness, melancholy, a lament on starving to death while the landlord ties your grandmother to the railroad tracks - these are the defining moods of everything from the blues to rebetika to flamenco.  Portuguese fado is a pillar of this tradition, and a young singer named Mariza is the pillar of today's fado scene.  Her vocal power and stage presence, often compared to the great Amalia Rodrigues's, have made Mariza a whopping celebrity in Europe and a rising star here, especially after opening for Lauren Hill.  (4/17, 8pm.,$35-$25.
