Fat Freddy's Drop to perform tonight
The New Zealand group Fat Freddy's Drop makes its Hawaii debut tonight at KB Extreme (Kona Bowl), 75-5591 Palani Road in Kailua-Kona.
Opening will be HI-Town, Inik & the Big Time Players, Damon Williams & Ryan Hiraoka.
The group's debut studio album, "Based On A True Story," garnered a stash of Tui Awards at the 2005 New Zealand Music Awards, and went gold on its first day of release in Aotearoa.
Fat Freddy's Drop won the Best Live Act at the b-Net NZ Music Awards in 2004. On stage, the seven-member band fuses skanking urban Pacific roots, soul, dub, jazz and electronica into hypnotic and thunderous grooves.
Doors open at 8 p.m. and tickets for the all ages show are $23 in advance at KB Extreme, CD Wizard in Hilo, Conscious Riddim Records, Big Island Built, and online at http://www.gvpconcerts.com. A portion of the proceeds will go to Mana Maoli Hawaiian Charter School programs. 07/02/10 >> go there
