Polonia Today, Young Polish Band Signs American Record Deal >>
Fergus, Ont., Canada (PMN)--Warsaw Village Band, nominated under the Newcomer category at the BBC World Music Awards, is set to embark upon its first North American tour in July and September. The tour follows the release of a new album in June.
The band has signed an agreement with Harmonia Mundi USA based in Los Angeles, California.
The band, credited with revitalizing the centuries old and quickly disappearing Polish folk traditions, will release its next recording through Harmonia Mundi, Gramophone’s 2003-2004 “Label of the Year.” Utilizing ancient techniques such as “white voice,” a unique vocal style once used by shepherds, and the suka, a knee fiddle gone virtually unused since the Renaissance, Warsaw Village band has already garnered comparisons to Chopin for their ability to give new perspective to traditional material.
Bookings for the band can be made through Amok Artist Agency. They are available primarily for festivals and Polish community performances.
