STOMP AND SWING
Reunion Dance: New at Rainbow Summer, and probably to many ears, is the unique sond of the Afro-pop band Bembeya Jazz. Part of the Guinean cultural renaissance of the 1960s and '70s, the government-sanctioned dance band once flourishes as a stage show. Over time, however, Bembeya Jazz languished, as many big bands do, and only recently regrouped. After 40 years, it doesn't sound a bit rusty: complex, harmonies led by three male singers, rhythms by a broad array of percussion. All you fair-weather swing and salsa dancers will easily find the beat.
