Midwest Record, CD Review >>
Ah, those wacky, rebellious Joubran Brothers. They come from several generations of master luthers, but what do these oud playing brothers do? They wind up getting their inspiration from the McLaughlin trio dates instead of the millions of years of regional folklore that is tattooed on their DNA. Of course the writing that inspired the non-musical side of this work are from a local poet whose work has been handed down through the ages. Like an army of John Bilezijians on the move, this oud trio takes it to the next level giving world beat ears with a focus on the middle east something to look forward to. Interesting, well textured stuff. (Randana)
