ANA MOURA, Leva-Me Aos Fados (Harmonia Mundi/World Village): (4 out of 5 stars)
Less theatrical than leading fado star Mariza, more traditional (despite early years spent singing rock) than the fluty Cristina Branco, Portuguese fadista Moura is more tonally akin to Cape Verdean morna diva Cesaria Evora. Reteamed with producer/guitarist/composer Jorge Fernando, her lustrous alto smolders and glows amidst acoustic guitars and bass on this elegantly arranged 17-track disc. A valuable addition to Moura’s — and fado’s — catalogue. At Skirball Cultural Center in LA Thursday, April 22. worldvillagemusic.com. 04/15/10 >> go there
