HEAR THIS!: SOUNDS GOOD TO US Ring in the new year with sounds from every corner of the world. This Sunday, 12 artists from countries such as Brazil, France, Cuba, China and Mali take over three stages at Webster Hall for the ninth annual GlobalFEST. “GlobalFEST is a big, exciting music festival. The energy is through the roof,” says Danny Mekonnen, founder of Boston-based Ethiopian jazz ensemble Debo Band. This year, Mekonnen and company play the fest for the first time, and their objective is simple. “Our goal is to get everyone on their feet and dancing by the end,” says Mekonnen. Other highlights will include French songbird Zaz, the Malian rap group SMOD and New York-based M.A.K.U. Soundsystem, a high-energy Colombian-American hybrid. Sunday from 7 p.m. to midnight at Webster Hall, 125 E. 11th St.; visit globalfest-ny.com for a full schedule and ticket information. — Calla Salinger 01/06/12 >> go there
