JOE’S PUB
425 Lafayette St. (212-539-8777)—June 13: Pierre de Gaillande is a French-American indie-rocker with an abiding love for the mid-twentieth-century French singer-songwriter Georges Brassens. His latest group, the prosaically named Georges Brassens Translation Project, is a musical tribute to this lyrical master, who was known for his anarchist leanings and his biting, humorous songs. De Gaillande, who plays guitar and sings, has faithfully translated Brassens’s lyrics into English, preserving both their raunchiness and their defiance. (One of Brassens’s most notorious works was “Le Gorille,” an anti-death-penalty song about a gorilla who sodomizes a judge.) For this performance, he’ll be backed by a superb band that includes Tony Jarvis, on guitar and bass clarinet; David Spinley, on clarinet; and Quentin Jennings, on charango. 06/08/09 >> go there
